End-of-arm tooling

EOAT, or end-of-arm tooling, is the hardware mounted at a robot wrist to perform the actual task. On a cobot, EOAT can be a gripper, vacuum cup, welding torch, screwdriver, sensor package or tool changer, and its mass, shape and forces must be included in application sizing.

Why it matters

EOAT often determines whether a cobot can carry the real load, not just the workpiece. Its weight, centre of mass, cables, valves and process forces affect payload, reach, repeatability and safe stopping behaviour, so tooling should be evaluated before shortlisting a robot model.
