Payload

Payload is the load a robot is rated to carry under defined manufacturer conditions. For cobots, the practical payload includes the workpiece, EOAT, adapters, cables and any temporary process load, then must be checked against reach, centre of mass, inertia, acceleration and duty-cycle limits.

Why it matters

Choosing by nominal payload alone can lead to an undersized cell. A cobot that can lift a part near the base may not handle the same mass at full reach or with an offset gripper, so integrators validate the complete load case before procurement.
