Ingress protection rating

An IP protection class, or ingress protection rating, describes how well an enclosure resists solid particles and water. For pick-and-place robots, it helps screen whether the cobot wrist, gripper, sensors and cable exits are suitable for dust, splash, washdown or coolant-adjacent environments before final validation.

BotNots treats IP ratings as manufacturer-sourced screening data where available, not as proof that a complete cell is washdown-ready. The final enclosure, tooling, connector and cleaning process still require integrator validation.

Why it matters

Pick-and-place cells often work near dust, packaging debris, coolant mist, cleaning fluids or ESD-sensitive parts. A rating on the arm alone may not cover the gripper, sensor, valve island or connector, so IP protection should be checked at the complete tool and cell level.
